December 2008

December 1, 2008

So that our members can spend more time with their families and business associates during the holidays, our Chamber chooses to have NO general meetings in December. We will, however, have a social meeting on the 17th so please see invitation attached!

The new officers and board were elected and we would like to thank Todd Snider, outgoing President for his year of service. Ron Ridnour and Murray Falk chose not to run for another two-year board position so we would like to thank them for their many years of service. Did you know that Ron has been on the Board since our Chambers’ formation? They will be missed.

Our Board will be meeting on December 8th at 2:00 at the office of Denise Koopman of Country Insurance for Strategic Planning.

New Officers for 2009:

President-Elect: Wendy McGraw
1st VP-Elect: Linda Tracy
2nd VP-Elect: Scott Edwards
Treasurer: Denise Koopman
Secretary: Vicki Seaton

We have many exciting ideas for next year and look forward to getting our plans and budget solidified for next year at the Strategic Planning session. If you would like to have something considered for the budget or events or committees, please forward your request to Wendy.

Christmas Safety Tips
Christmas Tree Safety
Consider an artificial tree (they are much safer and cleaner).

• A real tree should not lose green needles when you tap it on the ground.
• Cut 1 inch off the trunk to help absorb water.
• Leave the tree outside until ready to decorate.
• The stand should hold at least 1 gal. of water.
• A 6' tree will use 1 gallon of water every two days.
• Mix a commercial preservative with the water, or have tree sprayed with flame retardant chemical.
• Check the water level every day.
• Secure the tree with wire to keep it from tipping.
• Keep tree away from floor heaters, fire places, or other heat sources.
• Use only UL-listed lights, and no more than 3 strands linked together.
• Use miniature lights--which have cool-burning bulbs.
• Turn off the Christmas lights when you sleep, or if you leave your home for very long.
• Never use candles, even on artificial trees.
• Clean the tree stand to improve the tree's water intake, use one capful of bleach to a cup of water.
• Dispose of the tree properly.
NEVER BURN A REAL TREE IN THE FIREPLACE.
