PRESIDENTS CORNER
Your chamber has been busy! Plans are in motion now to sponsor the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus so save this date: Friday, May 22. The flyer will be available soon and tickets will be ready in a couple of weeks to start selling. Local businesses will also have the opportunity to sponsor a block of seats for their business use, employee giveaway, or for children who may not be able to go otherwise.

I am very happy to announce that we have hired a Communications Director, Martha Brooks. She will be writing and publishing our newsletter and sending you news you can use during the month as well! Please join me in welcoming Martha. I know she is looking forward to meeting you all.

INTRODUCING Martha Brooks, Communications Director

Hello, my name is Martha Brooks, and I am so happy to be part of the La Center North Clark County Chamber team as Communications Director!

My husband, Ernie, son Kyle, and I live in Battle Ground. Our two oldest sons, Robert and Evan, live in Vancouver and Castle Rock, respectively. Ernie is retired from a 40-year career as a truck driver, and I am owner of Farmyard2Feline Pet Sitting Services, (www.farmyard2feline.com), and have the pleasure of meeting and caring for animals of all kinds for my clients. With working for other businesses, and now my own, I’ve been caring for other people’s pets for 15 years and counting…

We live with three dogs, three horses, and too many cats, chickens and llamas to count. I lead the Llama 101 4-H club, and am the Clark County Llama 4-H Superintendent. I am also on the board of the Southwest Washington Llama Association, and co-founder of the not-for-profit Camelid Adoption & Mentoring Project. I’ve participated in many fundraising and educational events, presenting the wonderful world of llamas to anyone who will listen!

We grow a family-sized garden each year, and like many others are counting on it to stretch a little further this season. Our peas and potatoes are leading the way, having poked their heads through the warming soil in the last couple of weeks!

I edited Pawsitive News, a newsletter for Second Chance Companions, for several years, and more recently, write, edit, and produce The Tracks, the newsletter for the Southwest Washington Llama Association.

Life is good, allowing me to merge my passion for writing and otherwise communicating through words and images, with caring for animals while promoting their safety and well-being.

I look forward to meeting all of you at some point in the future, and welcome any ideas or input you have for the Camber’s newsletter and website. MLB

Welcome to new Chamber member, Clark County Fire & Rescue!

Would you like to live in a "Greener" home but you are not in a position to purchase a newly built LEED* certified home? There are several easy and inexpensive things that you can do to make your house more energy efficient, more comfortable, and healthier to live in. Many of these things will even add value to your home when it comes time to sell!

All paint is not created equal. Paints are now available with varying levels of Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs). VOC's are simply the chemicals in the paint that give it that "Paint Like" smell. The odor that the paint emits while being used and for the next year or so is from a process call off-gassing. Off-gassing is what happens as the chemicals are slowly released into the environment over time.

A much greener and healthier solution is to use new paints that have zero or minimal amounts of VOCs. It is much better for you and your family and it is a good selling point when it comes time to list your home for sale.

Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital needs our help! The “Zoo” at Legacy is running low of stuffed animals. Local businesses, organizations and neighbors are teaming up to collect new, stuffed animals for the pediatric units at Legacy Salmon Creek.

Legacy strives to make every child’s stay as pleasant as possible and a new stuffed animal is given to each child that comes to the hospital.

We can help by bringing a new stuffed animal to one of the designated drop sites or by bringing to a Chamber event by May 20th. Animals will be presented to the hospital on May 29th.

Challenge your friends and family to see how many they can donate. Together, we can make a difference!
