LA CENTER NORTH CLARK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NEWSLETTER
CHAMBERnews
June 2009
From your President: I have been attending meetings consisting of a consortium of Business Associations and Chambers in Clark County and one of the priorities we've identified to improve business is a "Shop Local" county-wide campaign. According to statistics provided by the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, $5.91 in local sales are lost daily to Oregon [per capita]. If that money was spent here it could generate 5,583 jobs. Our goal is to come up with ideas to get the word out to our communities regarding the financial impact of spending our $ over the bridge. We will be enlisting the help of local media and we will take our ideas to local constituencies to get letters of support. We are brainstorming about a "Tag Line" for the campaign...some of the ideas so far are: “Do You Get It”, “Where Are You Going”, “Watch What Happens”. Do you have any ideas for this type of effort? Please send me your feedback [wendy.lacentral@gmail.com]. The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus was great fun. We got off to a rocky start in the morning because their big trailer wouldn't fit through the gate. After enlisting the help of Ken McGraw and Rob Williamson from the school district, it was decided to move the show up to the La Center High School campus. It was very interesting to watch them put up the big top and get everything assembled for the performances. And what a show it was! Seeing the tigers and lion up close and personal was an experience I don't think anyone is likely to forget. And their clown practically stole the show! We were told many times that it was amazing that the Chamber could bring the circus to north county and we were thanked over and over. This made it all worthwhile! Special Thanks goes to Carly and Jennifer, Miss Teen La Center Princesses and now clowns who helped direct traffic to the new site. Summer is almost upon us and we want to make sure everyone is plugged in to the Centennial Celebration events. The committee is almost finished with a schedule! There is something happening every day from August 21 thru the 30th. The Parade at Twilight kicks it all off. We've included a Parade Entry form for you. Any musicians out there? We'd love to get a few more entries...you can march or set up on a flatbed! The LCNCC Chamber is sponsoring a Murder Mystery called, "Mystery at the La Center Saloon" on Thursday, August 27th at 6:30pm. More details will be sent out when we have finalized the logistics. Tickets are $15 each, or $25 per couple and include dinner and entertainment. If you would like to have an active "part", please make your reservations now by contacting Linda Tracy [linda.aformalaffair@comcast.net]. Our Days has been incorporated into the Celebration this year and the Festival is on the 29th. Go to www.ourdays.info for more details.
