Happy 4th of July! Dont forget to join the fun to be found throughout Clark County as we celebrate our nation's birthday! Wear red, white and blue to show you're proud to be an American!

PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Dear Chamber members and friends, Summer is upon us! Is it just me or does anyone else feel like jumping in the river or going fishing or taking a drive up to St. Helens? I don't remember having this kind of "summer fever" in a long time! With this glorious weather after so much rain, I even feel like mowing the lawn...yeahgads.
July is a month for parades, festivals, farmers markets, and reunions and the Miss Teen La Center Pageant on the 18th. We are a sponsor and we love to help Linda Tracy with this event. Miss Teen La Center and her court help the community in so many ways as ambassadors. Just last month, there were two adorable clowns helping us guide traffic to the circus!
The city-wide garage sales are also on the 18th and maps will be available throughout the city.
The Our Days Celebration and Festival will be incorporated into the Centennial Celebration this year. It's a nine-day-long event with something planned every day beginning with the "Parade at Twilight" and City-sponsored Movie Night [directly afterward] on the evening of August 21st.
We need some musical entries in the parade so if you or anyone you know of who might be interested, please call me at 690-5402 or Wendy Chord at 263-1968. We will also be judging floats, so step up and volunteer.
The main festival and lawn mower races are on the 29th and the Chamber contact is Ron Ridnour if that is something you would like to help with.
Todd Snider is heading up the Chili Cook-Off at Chips, our 2nd Annual! A full schedule will be published so you can make plans to participate in the many events.
This is really fun....we are in the planning process for a Murder Mystery to be held on August 27th and are struggling with where to have it! Does anyone have a barn or a shop they would be willing to turn in to the La Center Saloon for an evening? Call or email me or Linda Tracy if you have ideas on where to have it.
Since there are no First Wednesdays in July nor August, I hope you will be at the noon meetings on the third Wednesday at All Sports Pizzeria. I look forward to seeing you this summer.
Wendy McGraw President

COUNTRY FINANCIAL OFFERS SOUND FINANCIAL ADVICE Investment management, retirement, trust and planning services provided by COUNTRY Trust Bank?.
Curb These Investing Missteps: Investing is one of the best ways to achieve financial security for your family. But there are hazards along the way. Some investment pitfalls are apparent - not diversifying, overreacting to short-term losses, and investing on a whim. While you always should watch out for the obvious pitfalls, the less visible ones can trip you up, too. Keep your eye out for these potential dangers.
Investing your emergency fund: Money that you are saving for emergencies generally should not be invested in stocks and bonds. The reason: These investments fluctuate in value, and you may be forced to sell an investment at a loss if you need money immediately. Instead, try to keep enough money to cover six months' worth of expenses in either a savings or money market account.*
Feeling sentimental about an investment: Holding on to an investment purely for emotional reasons could cause trouble. Even if the investment was inherited from a loved one, you should be objective. If an investment no longer fits in with your goals or its performance has been substandard for several quarters, it may be time to move on.
Not opening your statements: Burying your head in the sand and refusing to look at your investment results is not a good habit. You may miss an error or fail to notice that your investment portfolio has become unbalanced. To stay on the safe side, check those investment statements when they come in the mail.
Following the crowd: Your decision to buy or sell an investment should be based on sound research, not on what others are doing. In fact, sometimes you may benefit by taking the opposite approach.
Put our expertise to work for you: If you're concerned about making investing missteps, let us help. I'll give you personal service backed by the expertise of the investment professionals at COUNTRY Trust Bank?. They'll do the investing for you. No matter where you're starting from, we've got the knowledge to help you invest for your family's financial security tomorrow. Call Denise Koopman at (360) 887-2211 for more information.
*Unlike a money market account, an investment in a money market fund is not insured by the FDIC or any other government agency. Although the fund seeks to preserve the value of your investment at $1 per share, it is possible to lose money by investing in the fund. Ridgefield Farmers Market Latest Updates
Here are the latest updates regarding the fast approaching start date (July 11th!) for the new Ridgefield Farmers Market.
Business Licenses. Ridgefield City Staff interprets Ridgefield Municipal Code Section 5.04.025 (Business Licenses Required) that the Ridgefield Farmers Market will be a business, of which their will be multiple "partners." As such, the Ridgefield Farmers Market is the only "business" that will require obtaining a business license from the City. Bottom line, you don't need a city license. Insurance Update (6/25/09 update provided by RFM Treasurer Denise Koopman).
Although the City of Ridgefield has indicated that they require the Market's liability insurance and documentation, to satisfy their insurance coverage needs, the Ridgefield Farmer's Market does require each individual vendor to provide proof of their own insurance liability, either in the form of a business owner's liability policy or as an endorsement on their home/renters insurance.
Market Vice President Darin Shields will be coordinating the co-op, which may not seem so necessary now, but is still a viable idea. We are also trying to coordinate a mini-RFM at this year's annual Ridgefield 4th of July Celebration. Anyone interesting in partaking please get in touch with Darin. Treasurer Denise Koopman will also be be also be minding the store.
What does RFM Membership get you?
Most importantly, you'll be allowed to sell your goods at the market. You'll get to vote on issues related to the current season, and help decide the future of the market. For those of you who missed the first meeting, here's some basic info ($$$), beyond the Membership Fee; Stall rental (10 feet by 10 feet) is $20 a week. You will need a License from the City of Ridgefield, $50
You'll also need a 10' by 10' canopy
Depending on what you sell, you may need insurance.
The 2009 Market runs every Saturday, from July 11th to October 3rd, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (with August 22nd off).
