One of the most exciting venues for the La Center Centennial is the Mystery Dinner Theater being presented by the La Center North Clark County Chamber of Commerce and co-sponsored by the New Phoenix and Last Frontier Casinos. The flyer is attached...call Linda or Wendy for more info.

Estate Planning Is A Definite Advantage

With one serious accident or death, a family's entire savings, home or business could be taken away. These nightmares could be avoided if you take advantage of the estate planning options available to you.
Estate planning involves more than being able to pay the federal government's death taxes. Estate planning is the design and implementation of a comprehensive plan of action based entirely on a person's goals and priorities. It also helps arrange your assets and affairs to maintain and protect your family now and in the future.
Many perceive estate planning for only the very wealthy. However, virtually anyone who has an income, owns property and has financial responsibilities can and should investigate how they can genuinely benefit from estate planning.
Most people do not have definite financial objectives. Those who do often cannot meet their objectives with their current planning. If you do not have your financial objectives and the means to reach them in place, you are in danger of allowing the government to take the largest portion of your future success.
Estate planning can be broken into two segments: distribution plan and liquidity plan.
Under the distribution plan, you direct where you want your assets to go during your life and after your death through lifetime gifts, wills, trusts, and buy-sell agreements. The plan determines how much and when.
With a liquidity plan, you arrange payment of taxes and expenses. This also ensures the financial security of your surviving family by developing an insurance program compatible with your estate planning goals, federal estate and gift taxes, and probate processes. Although the applicable exclusion amount for the federal estate tax increased to $1.5 million in 2004, state estate or inheritance taxes and other expenses may be "overlooked expenses" that result in a liquidity need at death.
Begin your estate planning by gathering your complete financial records. Then, with the help of a qualified advisor, identify your lifetime objectives; determine ways to reduce the taxable estate; evaluate all plan alternatives; select the best coordinated plan; implement the plan; and review and update your plan annually.
Your attorney and financial advisors should assisy you in implementing your plan. If you would like to learn more about estate planning and COUNTRY Insurance & Financial Services no-obligation Estate Planning service, contact me at (360) 256-2320.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT~ August 4th

Where will you be?

The La Center Police Department announces that it will hold its second annual "National Night Out" on August 4, 2009. The event will be held at Heritage Park in La Center from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The free event provides citizens the opportunity to meet the City Council and public safety staff from the Police and Fire Departments. This open forum introduces residents their police department and encourages interaction with neighbors. The Police Department anticipates that, like last year, the event will prove to be an enjoyable evening and will assist in promoting community pride.

La Center's first annual National Night Out in 2008 brought 200 citizens to the event. The program is designed to heighten awareness about crime and drug abuse, promote involvement in crime prevention activities, strengthen community relations and encourage neighborhood participation. 12,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world will join in hosting events.

The event in the City of La Center is made possible by sponsorships from Target, who continues this year as the National Sponsor and Chips/Palace Casino.

Lock your doors, turn on your porch light, and come join us at Heritage Park!

Battle Ground

Battle Ground's 6th annual "night out" will be celebrated between 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in Old Town and will feature a free bbq dinner sponsored by Fred Meyer, handouts such as smoke alarm batteries, bicycle helmet safety information for kids, and other safety related "how to's".

Ridgefield

For its' 5th "night out" celebration, Ridgefield will feature a rock climbing wall and children's bike rodeo. Join neighbors at Davis Park between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. for a meal of free "dogs" with all the trimmings, and lots of community-focused information.

All communities will gladly accept donations for their local food banks.

Lelooska Foundation & Cultural Center Educates and Entertains

During July we were pleased to have four small groups of summer day-camp children come to the center and visit the museum to learn about North American Indians. The children had fun looking for the 48 items listed on our Museum Hunt list. In addition, the Friendship Force of Lower Columbia brought a group of visitors from Florida. Each group spent about 1-1/2 hours here.

A few danger trees have been taken down and now the clean-up awaits us. We are having a Work Party here on the Foundation grounds at 165 Merwin Village Road, Ariel, on Sat. Aug. 8th from 9 am to 1 pm. Lunch will be provided. Bring your own work gloves. Individuals, families, and groups welcome! If you think you can come that day give us a call at 360-225-9522.

We are currently accepting vendors or business owners for tables along Pioneer Street.
There is no cost involved and it's a great way to get your name out there.
Please contact Pam Marini at 360-891-4183 if you are interested in setting up a table.
